Sylvia Higginbotham Ms. Higginbotham is a professional writer and former executive director of the Columbus Arts Council, the Columbus Historic Foundation in Columbus Mississippi and the Heart of Brevard, the Main Street program in Brevard, North Carolina. She also does PR, promotion and article writing for various business clients. Additionally, she's a freelance travel writer with more than 200 newspaper and magazine articles appearing in The Atlanta Journal, The Dallas Morning News, The New Orleans Times-Picayune, The Christian Science Monitor and others. Further, she has written video scripts and plays. She, also, has authored or co-authored ten books that are marketed nationally. She is the recipient of numerous awards for creative copy, production, documentaries and travel writing. A sixth generation Mississippian and Deep South daughter, Higginbotham travels extensively throughout the Southern states in search of the unique and different for inclusion in her books. Residences and employment in Florida, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Louisiana and Mississippi provided the impetus to write about the South she loves. Employment at newspapers, television stations, advertising firms and arts and historic foundations imbued her with the skills to tell the myriad stories abounding in the region. Higginbotham and her husband reside in Columbus, Mississippi and they are the parents of two adult daughters who live elsewhere in the South.
